Fabulous Faith presents - A Culinary Workshop with Chef Selwyn Richards at Vaughan Carifest 2014
On Friday August 22nd I was invited to attend the
VIP thank you dinner and Caribbean culinary workshop at Carifestival in
Vaughan.
I arrived at the venue Woodbridge fairgrounds, a local
historical site famous for hosting elegant garden parties, movie productions,
art and craft shows, garden markets and numerous cultural festivals since the
1880s.

As soon as I stepped
out of my car I was overwhelmed by the delicious aroma of smokey grilling jerk
chicken. I turned and headed towards a
large elegant white tent that was decorated to match the Caribbean theme. A buffet of 5 star hors d’Ĺ“uvres was
presented including enchanting tarts filled with ackee and saltfish, shrimp
shot glasses, smoked salmon bites and an array of exotic fresh fruit that tantalized
the pallets of the lucky guests upon arrival.
Chef Selwyn Richards, from Jamaica, a chef with over 25
years’ experience catering here in the GTA was just off center stage. He demonstrated his recipes and provided
instructions on how to prepare traditional Jamaican dishes, Escovitch fish a
tangy fish stew with peppers, onions and carrots, the ever popular jerk chicken
and rice and peas.
Our senses were excited as delicious aromas filled the tent and
Chef Selwyn’s pleasant personality engaged the crowd with witty humour. Chef Selwyn personally served the guests
after his cooking lesson and the crowd was thrilled with his recipes.
Special thanks to Karen from the CariFestival Association
for the invitation and to Chef Selwyn Richards for the delicious supper. CariFestival is a two day festival devoted
to celebrating Caribbean cultures in the City of Vaughan. The objective of
CariFestival Association is to showcase the best of the Caribbean culture,
demonstrate Caribbean artistry, and generate revenue to fund other Association
programs and services throughout the year, to support local charities and to
contribute to the community infrastructure.
Make sure to come out next year and support Carifestival!

Fabulous Faith hosts Scarborough Afro-Carribbean Festival - August 23rd and 24th 2014
Fabulous Faith is thrilled to have the opportunity to MC the 3rd Annual Scarborough Afro-Caribbean Festival!
Heritage Skills Development Centre (HSDC) in partnership with Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) are proud to present the 3rd Annual 2014 Scarborough Afro-Caribbean Festival. The festival will be held on Saturday August 23rd and Sunday August 24th, 2014 between 12PM-8PM on both days, inside the Albert Campbell Square, located in the Scarborough Civic Centre (150 Borough Drive Scarborough). It is a FREE event, open to all members of our community and the general public.
The Festival is a unique event, “Celebrating our Diversity”, while bridging the cultural gaps. It offers a platform to educate and entertain festival attendees as well as provides an economic development opportunity for independent vendors and artists to engage in self-sufficiency. This is in line with Heritage Skills development Centre’s mission to promote the health, social, cultural and economic self-sufficiency of new immigrants, at-risk and marginalized groups in the greater Toronto Area (GTA). It is also a great opportunity to showcase our diversity by celebrating the arts, culture, cuisine and heritage of the African and Caribbean communities, as well as promote local businesses while providing exposure to new and emerging artists.
According to Ms. Charity Lebeanya, The Executive Director of HSDC, the festival will celebrate our culture, bridge community gaps and help to portray a positive image of Scarborough. The event will feature various activities that will help strengthen, promote and increase awareness of the African and Caribbean cultures including its music, fashion, food, arts, crafts and lifestyle. The aim is to bring residents of Scarborough and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) together.
There will be performances and entertainment by Juno Award Winning Artist: Adam Solomon, Fojeba and the Sunshine Band, Ijo Vudu, ICU group, Carnival Spice, Blandine Kaniki, Focus group, Afro-Caribbean Dancers, many other talented artists, a Dancing Competition with prize give aways and so much more!
HSDC is a grassroots non-profit organization, established in 1993 with a mission to promote the social, cultural, and economic self-sufficiency and well-being of new immigrant families and at-risk youth, so that they and their families can enjoy and contribute to the opportunities that Canada offers.
