Scarborough Afro-Carib Fest - by Fabulous Faith
Last year I was blessed with the opportunity to Host the 2014 Scarborough Afro-Carib Fest, a 2 day cultural celebration established in 2012 by the Heritage Skills Development Centre.
The festival acts as a vehicle
of reorientation towards having pride in diverse cultures existing in
our community. The festival also provides the opportunity for all
guests to celebrate, share memories and network, thus eliminating
barriers of race, ethnicity, culture and religion.
Unlike other Caribbean festivals in the G.T.A., Scarborough Afro-Carib Fest is held in Albert Campbell Square just outside Scarborough Town Centre. There is tons of parking and TTC on-site so you arrive feeling laid back having avoided busy commutes and crowds.
Upon arrival you are welcomed by the scent of Caribbean Cuisine and the sound of steel pans. Instead of a crowded parade there is a stage featuring live performances from some of our City's most talented artists.
Scarborough Afro-Carib Fest is a safer more family-friendly festival, perfect for anyone from small children to the elderly. In only it's 4th Year this cultural celebration is a welcome addition and refreshing change to the super busy and often scary festivals bombarded by tourists and is the only event of this kind I feel safe having my kids roam around.
Great food, music, dancing, children's activities and all sort's of local businesses highlighting their creations, Scarborough Afro-Carib Fest is a must visit for 2015. Here are the details and some photos highlighting my awesome experience last year.
